Selection Services Environmental Policy

Selection Services plc recognises that its activities impact on the environment, and acknowledges responsibility to take reasonable measures to safeguard the environment for both present and future generations.

Selection Services policy is to aim for the best practice environment management solution and to ensure compliance with applicable legal and other environment requirements. The policy objective is to minimise harm to the environment and to prevent pollution being caused by any business activities.

We have a responsibility as a company to take proper care of  the environment. We are committed to managing our activities that impact the environment in a responsible manner and the following policy guidelines show the principal commitments we have set for ourselves.

Principal Commitments:

      • We comply with the relevant environmental laws and regulations applicable
      • We will continue to introduce energy efficient systems into our buildings and to manage sensibly our energy requirements wherever we operate.
      • The Board of Directors of Selection Services will take an active interest in our progress for implementing our policy within the business
      • We will actively encourage people to participate and contribute to the development of environmental initiatives as they affect our business.

Selection Services has actively implemented environmental policies within its premises. Initiatives are as follows:

RECYCLING

Recycling I.T Equipment.

Selection Services is dedicated to making sure that all IT equipment is collected by an authorised company who will make sure the equipment is either reused, recycled or disposed of in an environmentally responsible and legally compliant way.
The recycling of the Hazardous Waste Regulations meets and exceeds the targets imposed by the EU Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive.

Hazardous Waste

Selection Services are registered with the Environmental Agency as a company that will provide hazardous waste.
The main hazardous waste produced is the disposal of fluorescent tubes. When Selection Services renews its fluorescent lights we use the services of an authorised waste collection and disposal company under the statutory requirements of the special waste regulations.

Paper Management

When sourcing paper for letter head and for photocopying/general printing, the company actively seek out recycled paper of suitable quality for the purpose.

Used/waste printed paper will be shredded and sent for recycling.  Envelopes, junk mail and newspapers/periodicals etc will be placed in special bins and also recycled.

Water Management

Selection Services Lavatories have been fitted with a dual flush water saving device.
The urinals have been fitted with a sensor to enable flushing only when necessary therefore meaning no wastage of water by regular flushes. This is in line with the advice from the office of the Mayor of London  - a policy of “flush only when necessary” has been adopted in order to conserve water.
Our taps are fitted with an automated shut off system to stop any unnecessary wastage of water.
Hot water for supplying drinks to the company is supplied through a water dispenser therefore a constant supply is on demand meaning there is no water wastage.

Appliance Management.

Certain appliances have been selected for their efficiency and low environmental impact. We currently use a dishwasher that has been chosen for its 'A' rating energy efficiency.

Energy Saving

By using energy more efficiently we can help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, reducing the rate of climate change and the damage to the environment.
Selection Services has initiated simple measures to reduce energy wastage. We have a switch off policy for lighting, and switch off all computers when they are not in use.  We keep doors of air conditioned areas closed.
We use energy efficient light tubes. We use switches to turn off lights when natural light is adequate. Selection are seeking to use presence sensors controls for lighting in main open areas, toilets and store rooms.
Heating and air conditioning - several thermostats are placed around the building to enable localised control wherever possible. Zonal controls to enable certain areas of the office to be heated and air conditioned at certain times when are needed and switched off when they are not.

Our lift motor has been upgraded to that it is energy efficient.
